After basking in the success of his recently released movie Leo, Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay has officially ventured into the world of politics. He announced his entry with a new political party named Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.

Won’t contest Lok Sabha elections
Vijay said that the party will not contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In a statement, the actor said, “We are not going to contest the 2024 elections and we are not going to support any party. We have made this decision for General and Executive Council Meeting. Currently our party has applied for registration keeping in mind the time required for the work.”
Not a hobby but a passion!
The actor added that this is not a hobby but a passion for him. “Politics is not a hobby for me; It is my deepest passion and I want to devote myself fully to it.” For the unversed, Vijay is known for his philanthropic work. In December 2023, he helped flood-stricken residents of Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli districts and also distributed food packets. He has also been involved in donations for educational scholarships, libraries and legal assistance in the past.
Vijay says he wants to serve the people
“On my behalf, I have already agreed to complete another film-related duty without disturbing the party work and fully engage in politics for the service of the people. I consider that as my debt of gratitude to the people of Tamil Nadu”, he added in his statement.
How to join Thalapathy Vijay’s political party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam?
As per reports, a new mobile app will be launched soon through which people can join the party. According to Indiaglitz.com, the plan is to get 1 crore members in the party after the official announcement.
Can politicians from other parties join?
The report adds that politicians from other parties have not been invited. Thalapathy Vijay has asked the activists of organizations related to women empowerment, oppressed people and environmental protection to work with him in his party.
