The University Grants Commission (UGC) has given autonomy to various universities. This move will give them the freedom and flexibility to make academic and administrative decisions. However, the degree of autonomy may vary across these universities.
The universities include the University of Delhi, the University of Hyderabad, the Central University of Punjab, the Central University of Rajasthan, and Maulana Azad National Hindu University among several others.
UGC Releases List of Autonomous Universities
UGC has released a list of universities that have been granted graded autonomy under the University Grants Commission (Categorization of Universities (only) for Grant of Graded Autonomy) Regulations, 2018. The UGC chairperson M Jagadesh said that these universities are given either category I or II as per their NAAC grading.

DU Teachers Criticise UGC’s Move to Granting Autonomy
Meanwhile, some teachers at Delhi University are condemning the decision to grant autonomy claiming that it is intended to withhold funds for any future extension and place the onus of upkeep and expansion on students and parents.
